About the event
Music for piano, violin and cello by Haydn, Rebecca Clarke, featured composer Tom Coult and Ernest Bloch.Britten Pears Young Artists Trio Mazzolini play Haydn’s delightful piano trio, which flits between shade and sunshine, and featured composer Tom Coult’s “time eating” piece inspired by the Corpus Clock in Cambridge, which tells the time correctly every five minutes, but slows down and speeds up in between. They also play trios by Ernest Bloch and Rebecca Clarke, contemporaries composing in America in the 1920s. Both had wonderfully individual styles, but as with many women composers in the 20th century, Clarke struggled to gain recognition. Her Piano Trio is endlessly inventive, with variations on a short melodic fragment binding together this large-scale work.
